Feeding your garden birds and pond fish during the Winter

What to feed garden birds in Winter

Many birds migrate during the colder months, however, here are a few that stay with us:

  • Chaffinch
  • Goldfinch
  • Blue tit
  • Nuthatch
  • Coal tit
  • Redwing
  • Waxwing
  • Goldcrest
  • Blackcap

These wonderful birds have a busy time looking for warm areas to sleep, such as hedgerows and buildings, meaning they also need to find quality food to give them the energy.

Using bird feeders and tables, you can help these incredible birds with our range of food. We recommend the following products:

What to feed pond fish in Winter

pond-fish-food-winter

As long as your pond does not freeze to the bottom and an air hole is provided on the pond's surface, your fish will survive the winter. If your pond is at least two-feet deep, the proximity of the earth to the pond's surface will keep the pond from freezing any deeper than eight inches.

During cooler months, fish metabolisms will naturally slow down and they won’t need to eat as much. If you do feed too much, this can result in excess food floating about reducing the water quality and dissolved oxygen as it breaks down.

We recommend the following products for feeding your pond fish during the Winter months, however if you need any advice, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
