Feeding your birds in Winter

Caring for the birds in your garden during the winter can really make a difference for our feathered friends. They often struggle to find the nutrients they need to survive during the cold winter months. Here at Walter products we’ve put together a list of dos and don’ts that we hope will help you to make the right choices.

DO

Feed your birds all year round. They need to know reliable food sources summer and winter.

Feed them twice a day, morning and evening.

Choose wisely. Winter bird food needs to be full of fat, a high calorie diet is essential for healthy birds and will keep them nourished for longer.

Choose good quality bird food from reputable suppliers. Our products are carefully selected to appeal to all the feathered visitors to your garden.

Choose from a selection of mealworms, peanuts, niger seeds or fat balls. All of our products are sure to go down well.

Make sure the water in your birdbath doesn’t freeze over, and where possible ensure there is fresh water readily available for all your garden wildlife

Take the guesswork out of your food choices by choosing, specially formulated products from Walters.

DON’T feed them:

Salted or dry roasted peanuts, they contain too much salt. Look at our whole peanuts here for more information and nutritional value.

Bread or milk, it can make them sick and has limited nutritional value.

Decaying food, it contains harmful bacteria and can be lethal, mouldy peanuts especially.

Leftovers, which may have been cooked using salt, spices or garlic…all bad for birds.

It’s nice to know we’re doing our bit, however small to ensure the survival of our wild bird population because they have never needed our help as much as they do now.
